Regional PBD in Sydney – 10-12 November 2013

Dear All,

I am attaching an updated article on the PBD.  There is a brief section on the Speakers.   The Premiers of NSW and SA have already confirmed that they will be speaking at the event. Other prominent speakers include Senator Lisa Singh and Mr. Anand Satyanand, Former Governor General of New Zealand. We have a number of prominent speakers listed in the article. 

There will be musical recitals by Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma on the Santoor and Ms. Mita Pandit (Hindustani classical vocalist).  There will also be a performance of Bollywood dance by the Shiamak Davar Group and performances of different schools of Indian classical dance as well as talks on Yoga and Ayurveda.  This is in addition to the areas mentioned earlier like skills, education, manufacturing, services, resources, infrastructure, agriculture, youth, media and women in business, etc.

NEW DELHI: Bihar, which was synonymous with poverty, has emerged as the fastest growing state for the second year running, clocking a scorching 13.1% growth in 2011-12. Not just that, on the back of four years of double-digit growth, its economy is now bigger than that of Punjab—until recently the preferred destination of Bihari migrant workers.

Bihar to figure in international labour meet at Geneva

PATNA: Steps taken by the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government for improving the lot of state’s workforce and unemployed youths would figure prominently at the 16-day 101st International Labour Conference (ILC) to be organized by International Labour Organisation (ILO) at Geneva (Switzerland), from May 30.

State labour resources development (LRD) department minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal, who would be a part of the four-member Indian delegation, led by Union labour and employment minister Mallikarjun Khadge, to ILC, said here on Saturday the ILO has allotted the first five days of the ILC to discuss the problems related to labour and youth unemployment in India, and also to take account of the concrete and corrective steps taken by the governments, both Union and state, on these fronts.

Bihar boasts of 14.8% growth in 2010-11

PATNA: Bihar accelerated its growth rate to 14.8% in 2010-11 but still continued to be at the bottom of the pecking order in terms of per capita income in the country.

This was the highlight of the Economic Survey 2011-12, which was tabled in the state legislature on Wednesday by deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio. The state’s economy grew at an annual rate of 11.36% between 2004-05 and 2010-11, riding on substantially higher public investment.
